Ed Akins II, AIA
Principal Architect
A dedicated champion of sustainable design, Ed Akins is also a Principal at cove architecture. He is an experienced Registered Architect, former tenured Associate Professor, and past Interim Chair of the Architecture program at Kennesaw State University, where he was named a Sustainable Fellow. Throughout more than two decades of architectural practice and academic leadership—including service on the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Board of Directors—Ed has consistently advocated for integrating environmental responsibility and ethical approaches into the built environment.
Ed's wide-ranging background includes urban planning, mixed-use development, comprehensive planning, residential design, and sustainability-driven renovations. A Master's graduate from Georgia Tech and recipient of the Henry Adams certificate for scholastic achievement, Ed was also the inaugural winner of the John Busby Award for education and service to AIA Atlanta. As a sole practitioner from 2009 to the present, he has focused on ethical and sustainable projects that blend writing, research, art installation, collaboration, and architecture. His work and leadership experience underscore his people-centered approach to design, emphasizing depth of intelligence and quality in every project.
